ingredient-driven, handcrafted, nose-to-tail, italian-british cooking.

OUR JOURNEY

david meets chris leach, a chef with an idea to open an italian-british, nose-to-tail concept. they secure a pop up residency at 10 heddon street, opening on dd mm 2019.

four months after opening, covid intercepts. the pop up is shut down until 2020, when it moves to a new location on great marlborough street. it reopens with a new name: manteca, taken from a dizzy gillispie song chris hears by chance whilst visiting his father in law.

manteca keeps up with lockdowns over the covid years. in 2021, it finds a new, permanent location: 29-51 curtain road, shoreditch. it opens officially here on 11 november.

in its first year at the new curtain road address, manteca reaches no. 51 in the national restaurant awards.

3 years on at its shoreditch restaurant, manteca is a team of X with an established brand covering its own house wines, limoncello, amaro and olive oil. it continues to creatively challenge the meaning of nose-to-tail cooking with a adaptive menu and a close network of partners it believes in.
